Karin Hansen (KIHA) is born 1962. Civil Engineer (1990) and Ph.D. (1994) from the Technical University of denmark (DTU). Senior Scientist at  Division of Forest and Landscape Ecology, Forest & Landscape Denmark, University of Copenhagen.

Research

Karin Hansen (KIHA) works with forest ecology mainly with nitrogen cycling, carbon sequestration and storage as well as with hydrology. KIHA also works on the environmental effects of change in land use from former agricultural land to forest land. In his respect, KIHA has lately coordinated a European Research project in the 5th Framework Programme, called AFFOREST. Furthermore, KIHA works on the European forest monitoring. As such, KIHA has participated in many national and international projects on forest ecology and forest monitoring and has a large international research network.

KIHA has e.g. been involved in EU-projects such as: EXMAN (Experimental manipulations of forest ecosystems), AFFOREST (Afforestation management in north-western Europe - influence on nitrogen leaching, groundwater recharge, and carbon sequestration), CLIMMANI (Climatic change - Manipulation experiments in terrestrial ecosystems) and FUTMON (Further Development and Implementation of an EU-level Forest Monitoring System).

KIHA has evaluated research project proposals for the Swedish Research Council, FORMAS, and been reviewing manuscripts from a long row of journals including e.g. Atmospheric Environment, Biogeochemeistry, Canadian Journal of Forest Research, Ecosystems, Environmental Pollution, Tropical Forestry, Urban Greening and Urban Forestry and Water, Air, and Soil Pollution.
