Stephan Pauleit, PhD, is a Professor in Landscape Planning at the Danish Centre for Forest, Landscape and Planning, University of Copenhagen where he leads the research group in Landscape Technology. He received a Master in Landscape Architecture and Landscape Planning at Munich Technical University. Subsequently, he held positions as research associate and lecturer at Munich Technical University, Wye College, and Manchester University. He is an Honorary Research Fellow at Manchester University.
Stephan is an expert in urban landscape planning and landscape ecology. His research interests are broad. They range from strategies for green infrastructure planning at city and city regional level to urban forestry and planting design. He developed a special interest in adaptation strategies to climate change in the urban environment. Presently, he participates in the Danish research project “2BG Integrated infrastructure planning as key to sustainable urban water system".
He has broad experience in international research and consultancy, including EC funded research projects. He is a module coordinator in the European FP6 Integrated Project ‘PLUREL – Peri-urban land use relationships’ that seeks to identify strategies and develop tools for sustainable land use in peri-urban areas. He participated in European Union COST actions E12 "Urban Forests and Trees" and C11 "Greenstructure and Urban Planning" and he has worked in urban planning and urban greening projects in China.
